Director’s message

Having been cancelled first time around due to the pandemic, I am delighted that we have eventually been able to go ahead with putting Pomona on. It has been a long time since we started auditions back in January 2020 and we’ve had to be patient to get to this point!

Pomona is a play that I have loved ever since I first read it – although it took me a few more reads to start to actually understand it! The combination of Lovecraftian horror, role playing and the Manchester setting completely won me over. One of my favourite things about this play, though, is how real the characters are, even alongside the surreal elements and intertwining stories.

Having performed in quite a few KDC productions, I felt it was the right time to step to the other side of the rehearsal room and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience of directing Pomona. I was incredibly lucky with who I was able to cast and it has been an absolute privilege to direct such a talented, enthusiastic and generally lovely group of people. Working with them has made bringing the bleak world of Pomona to life a complete joy.

I hope you enjoy the show. And if you feel like you need to discuss what it all means afterwards, I’ll be in the pub (though I can’t promise to have all the answers)!
