What do you do when you're trapped in a loveless marriage with a brutish, gambling, consistently drunken oaf of a husband, and a handsome, young gentleman is professing his love for you? You get out, right?
The Provoked Wife is an age old tale of love, sex, divorce law and cross-dressing. A high energy, Restoration comedy of a lack of manners, moral guilt, and a witty exploration of the institution of marriage.
First performed in 1697, the play's themes are still relevant today, and in that spirit we will be bringing the play bang up to date, set against the backdrop of the lazy summer days of The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. Pimms anyone?
