The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh

Directed by Duncan Moore

The Cripple of Inishmaan is a black comedy set on the small island of Inishmaan off the western coast of Ireland.

In 1934 Hollywood director Robert Flaherty came to a neighbouring island to film a documentary and this real life occurance is the backdrop to this beautifully written play.

The news that Hollywood is coming is spread round the island by the official gossip monger, Johnnypateenmike who, up until now, had to make do with stories about the islanders trivial squabbles.

No one is more excited by this news of Hollywood's arrival than Cripple Billy, an unloved boy whose chief occupation has been gazing at cows. Billy is determined to cross the sea and audition for the American. We follow Billy's odyssey and its effects on the other islanders.

The Cripple of Inishmaan will be performed at the Landor Theatre from Tuesday 27th November – Saturday 1st December 2007
