Submitting your scripts to KDC Theatre Company

The New Writing Programme

In 2006 Eddie Coleman was appointed New Writing Co-ordinator. He is the first point of contact for all new writing and reads and considers all new plays submitted to KDC Theatre Company. Eddie works closely with the Artistic Director Naomi Wallace and the chair Nick Mouton.

Over the last three years we have established a programme of new writing. We have premiered over six new one-act plays and in 2008, we plan to premiere four more.

The reading process
  • Your script is read by two people – the New Writing Co-ordinator and one other.
  • You should allow at least 4-6 weeks for a response.
  • Where possible we do try and acknowledge receipt of your script.
  • We do not enter into any feedback with a writer unless we are interested in producing your script.
Our requirements

We are always looking for new play scripts. However, please do take a moment to read these important guidelines:

  • We are always keen to receive one act theatre plays and there are no restrictions on subject matter.
  • Cast size – Preferably a minimum of four in your cast. (We prefer larger cast plays as opposed to two handers but we will consider them)
  • Play length – Your play should be no longer than an hour (roughly one page = one minute) and no shorter than twenty minutes.
  • They should be typed and emailed in word format to new.writing@kdctheatre.com (It would be helpful if your plays could be typed in the standard format for plays as this makes it easier for our readers to read)

We will not read or accept the following:

  • Full length plays (Two acts or more)
  • Musicals
  • Monologues
  • Poems
  • Sitcoms
  • Prose writing

If you have any queries, please email us at new.writing@kdctheatre.com

Good luck and keep writing!
